The Fordland Clinic recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the “Healthy Roots Along Route 60″ project. This project, funded with a $295,000 grant through Missouri Foundation for Health and a $30,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, will begin its first growing season in the spring.
The Healthy Roots Along Route 60 project has an intended objective of reducing obesity and improving the health of the four communities of Fordland, Mansfield, Rogersville, and Seymour. This will be achieved through the creation of student-led gardens. The garden project will teach students to plan for and grow gardens, distribute the food produced, teach classes on preparation and preservation of food, and involve students in the improvement of nutrition policies.
For more information on this project, contact Becki Knobloch at the Fordland Clinic by calling 417-767-2273.
